Durgapur (/dʊərɡɑːpʊər/ or /-ɡæ-/) is a city in the Burdwan District, in the state of West Bengal, India. The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (earlier known as Durgapur Regional Engineering College) is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the government of India. Historically the capital of Awadh was controlled by the Delhi Sultanate under Mughal rule, it was later transferred to the Nawabs of Awadh.
