About Bhatpara

Bhatpara (Bengali: ভাটপাড়া) is a suburban town and a municipality under Jagatdal police station of Barrackpore subdivision in North 24 Parganas district in the state of West Bengal, India. It is situated on the bank of Hooghly river. It is known for its rich traditions in the field of Sanskrit learning. The name 'Bhatpara' originates from the ancient name "Bhatta-Palli", where 'Bhatta' denotes the sect of Bramhin Sanskrit pandits and 'palli' denotes locality or village. It is one of the oldest municipalities in West Bengal and it was constituted a municipality in 1899, when it was separated from the Naihati municipality. In the British era and afterwards, it had become an important industrial hub on Hoogly river bank, mainly for the high density of jute processing plants. It is also the home of prominent peoples like Swapan Chakladar.

Durgapur (/dʊərɡɑːpʊər/ or /-ɡæ-/) is a city in the Burdwan District, in the state of West Bengal, India. Durgapur is the third largest city in West Bengal in terms of both area (154.20 km2 / 59.54 sq. miles) and population (5,66,937) (2011 census & excluding the urban agglomeration). Durgapur is the second planned city of India after Chandigarh and has the only operational dry (inland) port in Eastern India. Alloy Steels Plant of SAIL ,Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), a C.S.I.R. laboratory and Allied ICD Services Limited, the custodian of the only operational inland port (ICD Durgapur) in Eastern India, is situated in Durgapur as well. There are four power plants Durgapur Projects Limited (D.P.L.), Durgapur Thermal Power Station, Damodar Valley Corporation & N.S.P.C.L., a few chemical and engineering industries, some metallurgical units have come up in recent years. The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (earlier known as Durgapur Regional Engineering College) is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the government of India. In 2015, Durgapur got the premier institute STATE INSTITUTE OF HOTEL MANAGEMENT( SIHM ) at Fuljhore, within the city premises. Also, in 2016, Durgapur got its much awaited Circuit House.
